Teachers

Harriett McNabb: The Village Yarn Shop opened May 17, 2008. I had been teaching 7-8 grade English for nearly 30 years and I had been dreaming of a place to share my love of fiber, color and friendship. Terry (my husband of 34 years) still is working at Caterpillar but supports my passion whenever he can - he would even like to learn to knit - the colors are contagious!

We chose Zionsville - or rather, Zionsville chose us. When we first saw the town, the downtown shops have the homey charm that we were looking for. People here are just so warm and helpful. They have welcomed us and wished us great success.

Our selection of yarns come from all over the world. New yarns come in all the time - the UPS man is getting his exercise.  Please come join us by taking a class-we have teachers that teach beginning to advanced classes. Kids are welcome!

Jane Fuqua: I teach beginner-level classes. My husband and I and our three sons moved from San Diego to Zionsville in 1999. I have found knitting to be a great source of joy in my life and it has led me to meet wonderful people that I never would have known. My favorite patterns are by Cabin Fever Knits. I am delighted that we have a wonderful yarn shop right here in Zionsville!

Maureen Hoyer: I teach beginner and advanced beginner level classes. My mother taught me to knit when I was young, and I rediscovered knitting a few years ago. I love all the new yarns, fibers and designs that are available for knitters these days! I like to try patterns that allow me to try different yarns and learn new techniques. Knitting has introduced me to many nice people, and I love meeting all the new knitters at the Village Yarn Shop!

Aletha Hughs: I taught myself to knit in the early 60’s while living in Newport, Rhode Isand and we were able to go to yarn factories and buy yarn by the pound! I knit argyle socks and sweaters; baby, children and adult sweaters; afghans. I have tried felting. New patterns and yarns are always coming out to give me another challenge. It has always been fun to take classes as new techniques are so much fun to learn.

We moved to Zionsville in 1977 and our daughter graduated from ZHS in 1984. I worked for American Greetings as a sales rep for 25 years - during that time, I did little knitting. I retired in 2002 and came out knitting again!

Mary Taylor: I learned to knit when I was 10 years old. My mother was an avid knitter having worked in a knit shop while she attended Purdue. Over the years I have made many sweaters, mostly for my 3 children and 5 grandchildren. I also love to knit socks as that is such a take and go project. I have taught special ed kids to knit as well as several friends. Knitting is definitely my passion!

Peg Alexander: I enjoy the entire process: from the animal, insect or plant to the finished garment. I knit. I spin. I dye. I get very involved with the Process of Knitting. The color… the feel… the power to create… Knitting/fiber brings great comfort and satisfaction to my life.

I teach all levels - many fiber arts. Call me for knit, crochet, felt, spinning, dyeing, I can knit arans, lace, miters, stranding, fair-isle, intarsia; sweaters/cardigans from the top down. bottom up, or side to side; socks on double points, single or double circulars; hats, scarves, mufflers, dickeys, mittens, smoke rings; round shawls, square shawls, stoles and triangles.
